Case, cause, suit or controversy disputed or contested before a court.
A request to a higher court to review a lower court decision.
A doctrine under which a person may not recover for an injury received when a person has voluntarily exposed himself/herself to a known danger.
In the law of evidence, the necessity or duty of affirmatively proving a fact or facts in dispute on an issue raised between the parties in a lawsuit. The responsibility of proving a point.
A lawsuit brought to one or more persons on behalf of a larger group.
The right of all persons to receive the guarantees and safeguards of the law and the judicial process.
Improper performance of an act, which a person might lawfully do.
Nonperformance of an act, which should be performed; omission to perform a required duty or total neglect of duty.
Indicates the degree to which an aspect of a case must be proven.
Actions by the employer, which interfere with, retrain, coerce, or threaten employees with respect to their rights as employees.
A court's decision to settle a dispute or dispose of a case promptly without conducting full legal proceedings.
The personal freedoms of citizens guaranteed by the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
